Frrrreeezing cold with Hastings Battleaxe

Yes, we have just had a really cold few days. Thermals on… But there were some beautiful frosty sights. In this post I’ve put photos of our sunny walk yesterday, down to Alexandra Park. What else? The world situation looks particularly dire at the moment – we have only a very few days left before Trump becomes US President, and the media will be overrun – for the next four years – with his odious orange ugly face and his unsavoury utterances. Is the man ever capable of saying something pleasant? Positive? Just once? And as for Elon Musk, don’t get me started. What else? This week has gone by very quickly. Philosopher has got a new phone, Digby has a cold and we went to the movies – Maria.

Philsopher took this one with the new phone..

Of course, never mind the freezing conditions here, the news this week has been dominated by the fires in Los Angeles. Climate change arrives to bite the US, big time. Now, believe me, I have every sympathy with people who lose everything in such dreadful circumstances, and Battleaxe would be totally traumatised if it happened to her, but the media coverage does seem a tiny tad disproportionate when considering the truly unimaginable losses suffered by the people of Palestine, or even the Ukraine. The barbaric genocidal slaughter in Gaza continues unabated… and is now largely missing from our UK media. I can’t say I’m that interested in the loss of Paris Hilton’s personal memorabilia, and the thought of being hugged by Harry and Meghan… noooo. Urk. I’ll have to put in another few frosty photos to take my mind off it.

In response to the being hugged by H & M thought above, Philosopher said he still had, somewhere, his old spoof card saying he didn’t want to be visited in hospital by Mrs Thatcher. Of course he couldn’t find it, so I had to download this rather scruffy image off the internet. Anyone else got one of these? I used to have one as well, but long since lost it.

So, what did we think of Maria? It was good to have seen it, some of the music was lovely, the visuals of Paris etc were excellent, and all possible credit to Angelina Jolie for studying hard enough to enable her to attempt some of the singing – for obvious reasons, she mimed to the voice of Callas for much of it. But still, my over-riding thought when I came out of the cinema – the incredibly comfortable Silver Room at the Kino in Rye – we reclined in comfy armchairs in the back row with hot drinks on a little table in front of us – was that Callas would have done better to have joined the WI. That would have taken her out of herself, stopped her wafting round Paris in the rain in her dark glasses and all that random consumption of Mandrax or whatever. I don’t think I mentioned that a few weeks ago we were again in the Silver Room, this time watching Conclave. For anyone who hasn’t seen it, Battleaxe would recommend.

One last thought before I finish up with yet more frosty photos. Today Keir Starmer announced that he wants to make the UK an ‘AI Superpower’. What the hell is that about? I just pray they know what they are doing. In Battleaxe world, I can’t even let Ebay use its suggested AI descriptions in my sale listings – they are uninformative gibberish.

I love these dead frosty leaf photos…
