What is? Christmas of course… Battleaxe feels all discomobulated. Have been ill with ferocious cold/bad chest which have only just shaken off (touch wood) after over a week. Battleaxe dragged herself out to some Christmas do’s, but missed a couple. We went up to London to meet Anna and Gareth – that was fine. Early next week, (all being well – and I say that advisedly, nearly everyone is ill atm…) we are off to Brum to meet old friends and go to a performance of our old friend Shaun McKenna’s Forsyte Saga at the Swan in Stratford. Here, writing, or rather editing, continues apace. Here is the first draft of the cover of the new book. What do you think of it?

London first. We met Anna and Gareth at the Ognisko Restaurant in Exhibition Road, where we have been several times before. It is a lovely old place in a beautiful building – something a bit different – it still has the original Polish Hearth Club upstairs. Previously, we have eaten outside on the terrace, this time we ate indoors – along with several Christmas parties. It wasn’t hideously noisy, but getting that way. I had some Polish dumplings which totally filled me up. The link above is for an old article about the reataurant in the Guardian, but it describes it well. Anyway, here’s father and daughter…

On Thursday last week I had two Christmas events on the same day. First, my WI Book Club lunch, and then my Poetry Stanza Christmas do, at which we all had to read out a Christmas poem we had written. It all wore me out… No photos of the poetry do. Had to miss two parties – our MP, Helena Dollimore’s, and the Hastings Internatinal Piano Volunteers one. Here’s Battleaxe and friends at the Book Club lunch.
Tomorrow we have our ‘official’ Christmas lights switch-on with friends Peter and Jenny, followed by meal at Rustico. The lights have actually been on for some time… they are looking better than ever this year, we think. Have got some new ones. We have Philosopher to thank for this display! See, the faithful Singing Santas are out again… They even sang!

A few more Christmassy pix to finish. Here are my crazy Christmas boots. I had them last year – they had baubles on then, which kept falling off, so replaced baubles with bells!

And my Christmas book advertising pic…

I do hope you feel better soon, Stephanie. Lovely light and fun events even if you were too tired to appreciate them. I like the book cover. It matches the style if the first one, which is good!
