Nearly two weeks has elapsed since Battleaxe’s last post – have been a bit busy. Mostly with the new book. ‘Death is a Desirable Property’ is now ready to go on Amazon, for release on 6 February. You can pre-order the Kindle version using this link. There is a bit of a delay between now and release date because I did not think I’d get it done so quickly… Anyway, had stepson Tom to stay for a few days, and done usual range of other things. Weather has been crazy – a few clear, cold, frosty days – my favourite winter weather, then snow, then dark, very cold days interspersed with excitement of Storm Spaghetti or whatever it was. Now dull and wet. Same old me? Of course, as it is January, have been trying to lose weight. Dream on… Will have to start with a picture of the new book.

You may already have seen this, but sorry, you will see it from now until the third book in the series appears. (Yes, I have already started it). I tell you, writing books is easy compared with marketing them. I have a daunting list of tasks. You may as well succumb and order the new one. It is slightly different from ‘Death, Deceit and Cake’ (of course it is different, you fool Battleaxe, it is an entirely new story). Caroline and Olga get up to some truly bizarre things – I am beginning to fear they are running riot, out of the control of the author. Well, in some ways it makes life easier – they can just get on and write the third in the series on their own.
Here are a few weather pictures:

Storm Canolli? Funnily enough the wind up here near Battleaxe Towers did not seem as strong as it sometimes is, but the sea did all sorts of exciting things down in town. Here is a picture of some Hastings beach huts from the internet. Much of the prom was covered in shingle.

New me? Pah. Had put on, am ashamed to admit, nearly half a stone since last summer, and I clearly need to lose it now. Trouble is, Battleaxe loves food so much. I lost 1.5 pounds really quickly, but now it is stuck. Honestly, all my life I have battled with my weight. I know all the books etc say one should just forget it, love one’s body and it’ll take care of itself, but they clearly have no idea how much a Battleaxe can eat when all restraints are off. And, sorry, no way am I loving this one’s body when clothes start getting too tight. It is not healthy for us older Battleaxes to be overweight.
I used to do much political ranting on this blog, but to be honest, I have lost the will to do it. Have given up. It is interesting talking to people – so many of us were paralysed with impotent anger at the state of the world, but now that anger is being replaced by fear. Anger is quite energising to write about – but fear, not so much.
Enough for now, I think.
Hello Stephanie,
I found the blog after doing a search for Nick – my former tutor at Birmingham Uni from 79-82. I catch up occasionally to read your amusing updates on life by the seaside. Just wanted to let Nick know, if he doesn’t already, of the passing of Fred Benenson recently. Fred was also one of my lecturers; a kind and quirky man – Nick will remember him. Fred’s son is also called Fred Benenson and has his own website where he published a moving eulogy. I can send a link if you’d like.
